Logan will be going back to surgery on Friday: the original shunt that was placed on the right side will have to be removed. It is draining too much and the adjustments the neurosurgeon tried to make to it are not working. He had a CT scan this afternoon and the decision was made to remove it. We had hoped that the first shunt could remain in place until it was time to put the plate in and do it all in one surgery, but it's not happening. He'll probably be in the hospital until Monday, then we'll start this process all over again.

Logan was transferred back to TIRR around 2:30 this afternoon, and will get back into his routine tomorrow morning. It's too early to tell what effect the new shunt will have; hopefully, it will help in some way. There's not much else to talk about this evening because the day was spent waiting to be transported. Tomorrow will be a busy and tiring day for him, especially after being in bed for days.      Round two coming up.

Logan's white blood count was fine Saturday morning, but the hospital was unable to schedule transportation back to TIRR until Monday(apparently scheduling an ambulance  for medical transport on weekends is a big deal). I'm not sure when he will resume his normal schedule for therapy, but I doubt they will waste any time getting him back into his routine; these people don't play. Congrats to the new Mr. and Mrs. Armistead; the wedding was terrific.

Robby spoke to the doctor this morning and he said that Logan is doing fine. Due to the fact that his white blood count is a little elevated, he will not be transferred to TIRR until it gets back into the range they want it to be in. The nausea has not returned and as of 2:00 o'clock this afternoon he does not have fever. Robby and I would like to thank Nicole and Jenny for being with Logan for the next couple of days while we're in Sulphur for the wedding; we know that he is in good hands and will be able to relax knowing that they are with him ( okay, maybe relax is pushing it a bit, but we are very appreciative of their help). Thank you both.

Everything went well during the surgery. Logan was still sleeping when we left the hospital around eight; the surgery was much later than scheduled. He willl probably stay in the hospital until Friday, then be transported back to TIRR(at least that's what we're hoping). Tomorrow, after we've spoken to the doctor, I'll post an update with more information.

Everything is in place for Logan to be transported for surgery tomorrow morning. We're ready to get this show on the road and get back to TIRR. He had a good day today and was awake quite a bit. I'll post an update as soon as I can after the surgery. Thanks for all the continued support and prayer.

It was an uneventful weekend (which is a good thing). Logan's surgery is scheduled for 11:30 on Wednesday. We don't know yet how long he will stay at the hospital before returning to  TIRR; the neurosurgeon should be able to give us some idea after the surgery. If all goes well, he should be able to resume therapy by next week; also his doctor plans to start him back on some medications that may help him with alertness (he is sleepy a lot right now ). There isn't really any way of knowing how much the fluid in the left ventricle is affecting Logan, but all the doctors feel that it is imperative that it be removed. It may contribute to his lack of alertness and also to the spasticity he is experiencing on his left side. One thing is for sure, losing the fluid won't hurt . Please keep him in your prayers on Wednesday.  Just a note for clarification, some people are confused about who is posting the updates; it's me (Debbie).

We had an appointment with a neurosurgeon today to discuss Logan's CT scan. He still has a significant amount of fluid in the left ventricle. Apparently , the shunt isn't draining that side, so the surgeon wants to replace the shunt he got in Lake Charles with a new one.  He would like to do the procedure asap, so we are waiting for him to check his schedule and get back with us.  Another surgery isn't something we wanted to hear, but the fluid has to be drained to optimize Logan's chances of recovering whatever function that he might be able to. He did get a therapy session in today before we left for the appointment and he managed to keep all of his food down all day. Hopefully, he'll get a full day in tomorrow.

Logan had a little problem with nausea yesterday morning and his blood pressure was elevated, so he didn't have a great day. By early afternoon things settled down. Today he was able to get a full day of therapy in and was really tired by the time he got back into bed. The infection specialist came by today and said that he was going to discontinue all of Logan's antibiotics and watch carefully for changes in his temperature or any other signs of infection. Tomorrow he will be transported to another facility for a CT scan, then back to TIRR for his regular schedule. We hope to have another good day on Wednesday.
